(Click here for the Danish version of this report from the Danish Alliance Partners)

The Alliance for Childhood (USA) released its 99-page report, "Fool’s Gold: A Critical Look at Computers in Childhood," at the National Press Club in Washington, DC on September 12th. The report has been praised by the San Francisco Chronicle as "thoroughly grounded in the scientific understanding of human development". In conjunction with this release, the Alliance issued a Call for Action on children and computers, which was signed by more than 75 educators, child-development and health authorities, technology experts, researchers, and other advocates for children. The Alliance's call for a time-out from the overwhelming pressure on educators and parents to computerize childhood has fueled a national debate on the proper role of computers in children’s lives.
