Without true play where is childhood?

Questions about the nature of children’s play touch on many topical issues: the limiting effects of our risk-averse culture, hurried childhoods, marketing aimed at children, early academic pressure leading to a loss of imagination and enthusiasm for learning and disconnection from the natural world.

In light of these topics Sally Jenkinson will examine the fundamental role of play in children’s physical, mental, social and emotional development. This illustrated talk on the magic and importance of play is designed to enthuse and inspire and aims to remind parents and others of the key ingredients for a childhood full of wonder.

Accompanying the talk is an impressive selection of black and white photographs offering insights into the creative world of children’s play by photographer Pete Millson.
